INTERSTATE SIGNS

Wisconsin interstate sign with "WISCONSIN" above the numbers. These are getting increasingly scarce. (Photo by Joe Koehler)

US HIGHWAY SIGNS

(May 2000) Current style US shield along with a Lake Superior Circle Route sign.

Cutout US shield used in Wisconsin in the 1950's and early 1960's. Later shields were of this design with a black background. During the 1970's sheilds simply had a "US" logo above the number with no divider line. By 1980 standard US shields were used (Photo by Joe Koehler).

STATE HIGHWAY SIGNS

(November 1999) Milton, WI. Current Wisconsin state highway and county trunk signs.

Older style Wisconsin state highway sign from the 1970s - size 24" x 24". This sign is made of wood and dated 1975 on the back. (My collection)

This sign predates the one above. This series was the last to be 18" x 18" and was fairly short-lived. This sign is dated 1963 on back and made of wood. (My collection)

This series was used from 1938 to 1962 according to state highway maps. The sign This sign is made of wood with a coating of finely crushed glass to provide relectorization. It is dated 1957 on back (My collection).

Another older Wisconsin highway marker. This sign is made of aluminum and has Scotchlite reflectorization which suggests that this sign is probably from the early 60's. Photo taken in 1995 behind the Toledo Convention Center - owner unknown.

This image was scanned from the 1926 Wisconsin Official Highway Map. This general style of sign was probably used from 1918 to 1937. By 1932, according to the official maps, the logo "STATE TRUNK HIGHWAY" was dropped. I have only seen one sign in person and it did not have the logo. (Map from my collection)

COUNTY TRUNK SIGNS

Older style county trunk marker used at the same time as the WI 57 sign above. This sign is also wooden and dated 1963 on back. (My collection)

This scan is from the 1932 Wisconsin Official Highway Map. By 1932, the logo "COUNTY TRUNK" was changed to "COUNTY HIGHWAY". These signs were used until 1962 when they were succeeded by the series above. (Map from my collection)

Scanned from the 1926 Wisconsin Official Highway Map. Original county trunk sign with the "COUNTY TRUNK" logo. (Map from my collection)
