INTERSTATE SIGNS
|
Older style Interstate sign with three digits on a 24" x 24"
sign. My collection. |
|
Unusual interstate sign with large "NEW JERSEY". Most interstate
signs in New Jersey still contain the state name. (Photo by Joe Koehler). |
US HIGHWAY SIGNS
|
Embossed cutout US route marker scanned from 1932 NJ Official Highway
map (map from my collection). |
STATE HIGHWAY SIGNS
|
Current style New Jersey state marker. Original signs in this series
had 'NJ' above the route number. This was dropped in the 1970's. (Photo by Joe Koehler). |
|
Ghost marker. The sun has taken its toll on the the numbers - you can
see a faint "33" (Photo by Joe Koehler). |
|
Older style NJ cutout route marker. These flat, reflectorized signs
where used in the 1950's and into the early 60's, when they were replaced by the current
marker (Photo by Michael Summa). |
|
Emobossed route marker. This style was used from about 1929 until the
early 50's. Later signs were silkscreened. This particular image was scanned off the 1932
NJ Official Highway map (map from my collection) |
|
Photo from 1928 NJ Official Highway map showing signs from the 1920's.
Note that state routes were marked in two ways: 1) Painted notations on signposts and 2)
metal signs reading 'N.J. State Highway Route' The signs were black on white with a white
on blue number in the center (map from my collection). |
|
Original NJ Highway marker scanned from the 1921 NJ Official Highway
map. I believe these were replaced by the mid-1920's by the sign above (map from my collection).
|
OTHER HIGHWAY SIGNS
|
New Jersey Turnpike marker. This route is also I-95 for about half of its
length (Photo by Joe Koehler). |
|
Current style Garden State Parkway sign. (Photo by Joe Koehler). |
|
Mystery sign. This sign is the same style as New Jersey state route
markers from the 1930's, complete with the dots in the appropriate places, but there is no
route 203 (nor has there ever been accoring to NJ Official maps). From Ebay, Owner unknown.
